Kayonza: FVA completed training of Farmer Promoters for USAID-Funded Gikuriro programTue, 4 Oct
Faith Victory Association (FVA) has conducted a Training of trainers (TOT) to farmer promoters who will help to disseminate knowledge on improved farming techniques to Gikuriro program beneficiaries. FVA is implementing this WASH and Nutrition program in partnership with other international NGOs which are Catholic Relief Services (CRS) and SNV.
FFLS training was organized under Gikuriro Program which is aimed at improving nutritional status of women of reproductive age and children less than five years of age, with an emphasis on the 1,000 day window of opportunity from pregnancy until a child’s second birthday.
These trainings were delivered to Farmer Promoters selected from different villages in Mwili, Kabare and Nyamirama sectors of Kayonza District.
They were trained on Farmers Field Learning Schools (FFLS) management; Bio-Intensive Agricultural Techniques (BIAT) and they are expected to serve Gikuriro program by installing FFLS in their respective villages.
After training, Farmers Promoters will transfer acquired improved farming knowledge to other Gikuriro program beneficiaries in order to increase farming production and use this increased production to fight malnutrition.
One of Bio-Intensive Techniques Different taught in training include Kitchen Garden and trainees were provided with time to practice.
FFLS is one of the major activities which will help Gikuriro Program to achieve the target of eliminating malnutrition.
